Different starting points. Different goals. The same focus: becoming more capable.

No two people come to training for exactly the same reason.

Some want to get back to something pain or injury has taken away. Others want to rebuild strength, move better, improve their fitness or simply feel confident using their body again.

The approach is individual. So are the outcomes.

Angela — Back to doing what she loves

After breaking her spine in a horse-riding accident, Angela spent a year in a brace. Although she eventually returned to exercise, ongoing back pain and stiffness continued to limit her training and made riding her horse painful.

Training initially focused on restoring mobility and movement control before progressively building her strength and conditioning.

Over time, Angela returned to pain-free performance training and, most importantly, got back to riding her horse — one of the things she loves most.

Jim — Stronger, fitter and more capable

Jim started training with pain in both knees, restriction through his neck and upper back, declining strength and low energy. The physical demands of running his pile-cropping business were becoming harder, and he was increasingly concerned about triggering flare-ups.

Training began with flexibility and movement-control work before progressively developing his strength and conditioning.

Jim went on to run 5 km pain-free, complete 40+ km bike rides, deadlift more than 140 kg and bench press more than 100 kg. His knee pain resolved, his energy improved significantly, and he became more confident handling the physical demands of his work and everyday life.

Colin — Stronger than he thought he could be

Colin initially came to training with a fairly straightforward goal: get stronger and build some muscle.

But his initial screening showed there was more to work on. He had significant restrictions through his hamstrings, lower back and thoracic spine, along with poor balance. When we started, he wasn't able to perform an unsupported split squat comfortably and was hesitant about lifting heavier weights.

So rather than simply adding load, we worked on the physical foundations alongside his strength training.

As his mobility and balance improved, so did his confidence. His deadlift progressed from 40 kg to 100 kg, unsupported split squats became comfortable, and lifting heavier weights became something he enjoyed rather than avoided.

Perhaps the biggest change was that Colin surpassed what he'd thought he was capable of.

By the time we finished working together, he wasn't just stronger — he'd completely changed his relationship with strength training and intended to keep doing it for life.

Jess — Getting back to running when she'd been told she wouldn't

Jess came to training with several goals: lose weight, get stronger, build some muscle and restore function following a significant leg fracture.

But there was another goal that mattered to her. She wanted to run again.

After her injury, Jess had been told she was unlikely to run more than one or two kilometres. Understandably, there was some hesitation around what her leg — and her body more generally — could handle.

We initially spent considerable time rebuilding the foundations. Control drills helped Jess reconnect with how she was moving, with particular attention to trunk and hip control before progressively developing her strength.

As that foundation improved, we gradually increased the strength work and began reintroducing running.

By the time Jess relocated, she was training pain-free, had built significantly more strength — including a 60 kg box squat — and was running 5 km in under 30 minutes.

More importantly, she'd gone from being told there were things her body probably wouldn't do again to discovering that it was capable of considerably more than she'd expected.
